Huntsville, Alabama Maternity Session | Stricklin Family

Sometimes life just brings full-circle moments. This Huntsville, Alabama maternity session was one of them. A couple of years ago, Rachel (the mom photographed and a very talented photographer in Birmingham, Alabama) took my own family’s photos during the fall. I noticed that she was shooting film, something I hadn’t gotten to see someone do in person since I was a child. I was fascinated with her whole process. She was very intentional in photographing us, and the film afforded her a slowness that relaxed us all. When we received our images from her, I just fell in love with film and decided that I had to learn how to photograph with film, too.

Rachel helped me get started with film and was quick to answer my questions. Almost two years later, I got to photograph her Huntsville, Alabama maternity session using only my medium format film camera. It was such a treat to work with her and her family! Though the wind and lower temperature surprised us that day, we were able to embrace the weather to get some beautiful images. The girls were precious, cuddling with each other and their parents and never complaining about how cold I knew they must be.

I still smile at their love for each other and the bundle of joy growing in Rachel’s belly!
