Huntsville, Alabama Family Photographer | 3 Tips For Your Family Photo Session

As a family photographer and a mom myself, I know that you put a lot of thought into family photos. It’s my goal to make the process not only easy for you, but also a truly enjoyable time. From helping you choose outfits for each member of the family (and providing access to the client wardrobe) to planning the details of your session and helping you design artwork to cherish forever, I aim to give you the best experience possible. But there are a few things that you can do to make your family photo session fun for everyone.

Here are 3 tips for your session.

Make Sure Everyone Is Rested and Fed

The best thing that you can do to prepare everyone for a great time at your family session is to give everyone a snack beforehand. That includes you! No one likes to be hungry, and your kids will feel more like themselves if they’ve had something to eat before you leave home. If your children are still taking naps, try to make sure they get that sleep during the day. Of course things happen and sometimes little ones make their own plans for the day, but if you can have everyone rested and fed before you arrive for your photos, you will all be able to enjoy yourselves more.

Just Keep Smiling.

You can see in my work that I really enjoy capturing the authentic moments between families. I want to document your laughter, connection, and love, and when moms and dads lead the way by keeping smiles on their faces, it makes it easier for the whole family. Your little ones may be camera shy – or they may decide running around sounds like way more fun. Either way is great, and I’ll make sure to get their personalities. Remind yourself not to feel discouraged or frustrated. I always tell parents that family sessions are going way better than they think they are! If you keep smiling and looking at your children with love, they will be happier, and I will capture some really sweet moments.

Pack Pajamas and plan to stop for food on the way home

When my own family had our photos taken last, we decided to pack my boys’ pajamas to change them before we left the location, and we decided to stop for dinner on the way home. It ended up being loads of fun and made the whole evening so much easier. We didn’t have to worry about getting home late, scrambling to make dinner, and getting everyone ready for bed. I can’t recommend this enough! Not only did it make the entire experience easier, but it also gave us some fun memories that we recall when we see our photos throughout our home.
