When to Book Newborn Photos | Huntsville Newborn Photographer

If you’re thinking about when to book newborn photos, congratulations! A precious bundle of joy is getting ready to enter your life, or maybe already has! I know this is an exciting time filled with lots of unknowns and to-do’s. I’m glad to hear that a newborn session is on your mind and would love to walk you through the process.

How does it all work?

As a Huntsville newborn photographer, a question I get asked often is, “When should we actually schedule our session for?” It’s hard to know exactly when a baby will arrive – believe me I know! My little ones all came weeks before their due dates! When you contact me to book a newborn session, I’ll pencil in your due date. I take a limited number of newborns per month to account for unpredictability. Once your little one arrives, you can contact me to let me know, and we’ll get an official date on the calendar. If you know you’re having a scheduled induction or caesarean, we can get a tentative date scheduled before your baby arrives, too. Just let me know!

To capture your baby in that sleepy newborn state, I recommend that your newborn session take place about five to fourteen days after birth. Sometimes a NICU stay or doctor appointments force a later newborn session. That’s ok! My natural, lifestyle approach to newborn photography can definitely accommodate an older newborn. I promise we’ll still get beautiful images of your sweet baby!

So when should I contact you?

Great question! When deciding when to book newborn photos, please keep in mind that my calendar typically books out a few months in advance. Because of that, I highly recommend reaching out just as soon as you feel comfortable, ideally sometime in your second trimester. I always get so sad when I hear from a mama who wants to schedule a session, but I just don’t have availability. To avoid that, contacting me sooner rather than later is a good idea.

Is it too late?

If your due date is in the next few weeks, or if your baby has already arrived, still reach out! It’s always possible that I have a spot available, and if I don’t, I can help you find a photographer. Definitely don’t let your approaching due date or the fact that your baby is here keep you from scheduling a newborn session!
